If skateboarding has ever had a Cinderella story, this is it.

An unknown kid from Kamloops, deep in the depths of British Columbia made his way into the finals of Street League Skateboarding (SLS), quickly writing him into skateboarding’s history books.

Known for his smooth style and insane technical ability, Matt splits his time between the sunny streets of LA and the rainy roads of Vancouver.

A skateboard prodigy, Matt started skating when he was five, first got sponsored when he was ten, and won his first major contest, 2009 Damn Am Canada, when he was just 16.

In 2014, Matt skated the SLS Pro Open and made history as the first amateur to qualify into the full SLS Tour.

And in his first year, he made it to the SLS Finals at every contest and was the first rookie to ever qualify for the World Championship where he ended up in fifth place ahead of veterans Paul Rodriguez and Shane O’Neill.

Matt turned pro for Flip Skateboards in 2015 and had a good year in SLS with two more top-ten finishes.

After coming back from injury in 2018, Matt is looking to lead a new generation of Canada's skateboarders to the Olympics.

So far, so good.

In his return to major competition at the SLS London 2019 – where he had to grind through the qualifier to get into the main draw – he finished just off the podium in sixth place.

In 2021, another milestone.

Matt built a video part for X Games Real Street that went deep into the streets and hard-to find spots in Huntington Beach where he's been living for almost 5 years. And with a combination of style, creativity and homefield advantage, he won his first X Games medal.

Matt quickly established himself as the top Canadian in the World Rankings and an early favourite to represent the country in Tokyo 2020 and ended up being the the only athlete to represent the sport on Team Canada.

And in 2022, Matt followed the Olympic appearance with his second X Games medal – a bronze in Real Street, Best Trick.

Bring on the streets of Paris 2024.
