Undrafted player to Stanley Cup Champion.

It's an unlikely story that began when Nick's parents immigrated from Greece and found that hockey was a universal language in Canada that would help the family integrate into their new country.

Growing up in Toronto, Nick's love of the Maple Leafs guided his dream of making it to the show and from a young age, he proved he was more than good enough to move through the ranks becoming an effective goal scorer for the North Bay Centennials of the OHL.

But he was never considered a top prospect and was overlooked by NHL teams and ultimately signed as a free agent on the eve of his second junior hockey season.

Making it to the NHL looked like a long shot.

So, Nick adapted and with a tireless work ethic, he dedicated himself to recreating his game around the toughness required to become an integral part of a winning team in that era.

Kyper was now an enforcer who made a name for himself for always having a positive influence on team morale and its presence on the ice.

A medium-weight fighter, he squared off with the league’s toughest players including Chris Simon, Joey Kocur, Tony Twist, and Scott Stevens.

Anything to give his team an edge.

Over eight seasons in the league with the Hartford Whalers and Washington Capitals, Nick was ultimately brought to the New York Rangers to help them win the Stanley Cup in 1994 — their first in fifty-four years — with the legendary Mark Messier.

And then he got to live his earliest dream: playing for his hometown team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

When he was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome, it forced him to retire early and it changed his life.

So, Nick adapted again and his move from enforcer to entertainer was as seamless as his move from scorer to enforcer.

Undrafted.

Unapologetic.

Nick's experience about the challenges and successes of being a player who had to prove himself every night have led to some opinonated and always entertaining insights about the game as a well-respected media personality.

Nick is currently a hockey analyst for Sportsnet and the co-host of the nationlly-syndicated radio talk show Real Kyper and Bourne on The Fan 590.

And he speaks passionately about what it takes to make one of the biggest leaps in sport:

Undrafted player to Stanley Cup Champion.
